Snowmass has everything that the typical intermediate skier could ever want and so much more. It offers the greatest groomed intermediate runs in the world. It has something for the person that has never skied all the way to the ultimate extreme skier and everything in between. It has been 25 years in the making, and Snowmass will now go through a huge resurgence with a new base village. However, it will now come to a halt until the economy recovers. The first phase of 89 ski access condominium units consisting of one, two, and three bedrooms at Capitol Peak Lodge and Hayden Lodge have been completed.
Snowmass has been pouring close to $40 million in on mountain improvements including new chairlifts, a new Elk Camp gondola, new restaurants, etc.. The new base village will consist of approximately 400 condo units consisting mostly of 1,2, and 3 bedroom units. Also, a self sufficient village is planned with 12 restaurants and numerous shops and activities. A huge parking garage with roughly 750 parking spaces will be built under the village. It will have separate restricted areas reserved for the condo units.
The units will be built with luxury finished, sound proofed, and furnished down to the silverware. They will also plan to build a Little Nell 5 star hotel that will have 1, 2, and 3 bedroom condo units that will be sold off (but has now been put on indefinite hold). They have already built the first phase of a large Viceroy 4 star hotel that have 1, 2, and 3 bedroom condo units that may be sold off. No rooms in the hotels, just 100% ownership condo units that may be sold off.
The new base village will also build large conference areas in addition to the existing conference facilities located adjacent to the Silver Tree Hotel. The beginner area has been moved to the bottom of Elk Camp to make room for 12 new ski-in, ski-out townhomes.
A new kids water park is also planned. The Aspen Ski Company plans on building a new Elk Camp restaurant that will be open at night via the new gondola. They will serve dinner up by Elk Camp and plan to have sledding and ice skating. In the summer, they plan to keep the mountain open for mountain biking down the mountain and horse back riding.
The Aspen Ski Company is hoping to provide enough alternatives with entertainment and dining that Snowmass visitors do not have to go to Aspen every night. The plan is to make Snowmass become more of a year resort and resume construction once the economy picks up again.
