The good news regarding the Snowmass Base Village is that the plastic that was put on the Snowmass Base Village arrival center and the Little Nell building when construction was halted almost 2 years ago, has been removed and is being replaced by façades.
Over $2M is being spent on finishing the Snowmass Base Village arrival center so that it has escalators to welcome guests and skiers alike to Snowmass Mountain. It is great that they are getting rid of the plastic as the first thing you see when arriving to ski at Snowmass Mountain. The new facades look great, see photo. Hopefully, the facades will last long enough for the economy to turn around. It was estimated initially that the Snowmass Base Village arrival center would cost around twenty million dollars to complete. I think this is definitely a step in the right direction for Snowmass Mountain, and will make the Snowmass Base Village much more attractive until the economy recovers and it is completed.
The skier transit buses will begin stopping at the Snowmass Base Village this winter. Skiers can then ride the new escalator up to the village level to take the Elk Camp Gondola or the Snowmass Mountain Express Chairlift. This will also be more convenient for families dropping off their kids for ski school lessons at the Tree House kids’ center that is located at the Snowmass Base Village too.
