It all started in the 1960’s when the Kennedy family first came to Aspen. Since the rich and famous have followed in a mad rush to visit and then buy a piece of Aspen or Snowmass to call their own.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell called Aspen home while raising their kids, including the now famous Kate Hudson.
Barbie Benton calls Aspen home with her husband and kids. Indy Car racers Danny Sullivan and Bobby Rahal are home in Aspen’s Woody Creek a good part of the year. Don Henley of the Eagles rock band also has a home in Woody Creek and spends a good part of the year here. After starring in Bat Man, Jack Nicholson bought five homes in Aspen and spends a good amount of time here. Kevin Costner decided to buy a prime piece of property and build a mansion towards Independence Pass in Aspen and also spends a good deal of time here with his wife.
Mariah Carey and her new husband Nick Canon bought a home here recently on the West End of Aspen. Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith have a home in Aspen and spend a great deal of time here. The NBA’s commissioner David Stern has a home in Snowmass and seen often in Aspen and Snowmass.
Our newest famous local is Lance Armstrong that bought a new place in the West End of Aspen. One can see Lance training around Aspen in the off-seasons. He likes Aspen because he says the locals don’t bother him.
Of course, I’m not including top Chief Executive Officers of some of the largest companies in the world and my personal clients because of confidentiality.
Some rich and famous still come to Aspen and Snowmass but don’t own a place in Aspen or Snowmass. This includes stars such as: Will Smith, John BonJovi, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Owen Wilson, Dan Marino, Quincy Jones, Reggie Jackson, President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, Margaret Thatcher, Wayne Gretzky, Heidi Klum and Seal, Ivana Trump, Donald Trump and his kids (Donald Jr. and Ivanka), Robert Wagner and Jill St. John, Vanna White, Elle McPherson (who was discovered in Snowmass), Cindy Crawford, Diana Ross, President Gerald Ford, Wolfgang Puck, David Robinson, and too many to mention in this small article.
If you know them as rich and famous, they have probably visited Aspen and Snowmass at sometime in their lives. Aspen and Snowmass is truly the Hollywood of the Mountains. It is the ultimate place to get away, even if you are rich and famous or not. Either way there is only one Aspen. Snowmass just makes Aspen better because of the ski mountain being famous for wide intermediate groomed runs like no place else in the world.
