Aspen is a small town with approximately an 8,000 year around population. However, it has over 200 commercial kitchens in the city of Aspen. It has some of the best restaurants in the world. It is amazing that such a small ski town could attract such fine dining.
Matsuhisa is regarded by many as the cream of the crop. It’s founder is the same than the famous Nobu restaurants around the world. It’s concept and menu is similar to Nobu in New York that is part of an ownership group headed by Robert DeNiro. Nobu Matsuhisa is a chef that has made his restaurant specialize in fresh sushi with a South American fusion of taste. His Nobu and Matsuhisa restaurants are regarded as some of the top restaurants in the world.
The Little Nell stands for five star accommodations and service. It’s fine dining restaurant, Montagna that specializes in international cuisine, does not disappoint. The service and atmosphere of this restaurant is top notch (see photo).
Another popular high end restaurant is Casa Tua from Miami. Next, the historical Hotel Jerome is a restaurant that also boasts an international menu and provides a special historical Aspen atmosphere.
Aspen is a small town and has 3 top sushi restaurants including Matsuhisa (mentioned above and the overall best!). Suprising these other two sushi restaurants can make it in such a small town. Takah Sushi is more of a local favorite for sushi. Kenichi attracts both locals and tourists alike.
Aspen also has many Italian restaurants. Campo De Fiori is a favorite among tourists. Mezzaluna has a big bar for après ski and signature pasta and personalized pizza.
Aspen has some reasonable priced Mexican restaurants in town. The Cantina is more like any other Mexican type franchise in your home town. Su Casa is more southwestern and is adjacent to Aspen Billiard (a pool hole and cigar bar) and Eric’s (a local bar). The burritos at Su Casa are huge and tough to finish.
One of the greatest fine dining restaurants in town is Cache Cache. It is expensive but well worth the price. It specializes in French cuisine but has an international menu as well. A local secret is to dine at the bar for a fraction of the price. You need to dine early if you want to take advantage of the bar menu.
The Caribou Club is regarded as the place to see the stars. However, don’t expect to get into this private restaurant without paying big money to become a member or being a member’s guest. The food is good but not cheap. Not much is in Aspen.
Another restaurant in town called Syzergy also serves an international menu. If you do not know where it is, you are not likely to stumble upon it. To the owners, this is what makes the place unique and exclusive.
The best place for kids is Boogies diner. It is a retail store downstairs with a 1950’s style soda and restaurant upstairs. Kids love it. Other kid friendly places are The Hickory House (a local favorite for barbecue baby back ribs), McDonalds (do I need to say more), and Little Annies (large portions of American food).
